Her mother left Orochimaru when she was two years old, escaping Otogakure and execution, crossing the Land of Wind and into the Fire Nation to warn the Leaf Village of the rogue Sannin's intentions to strike in the near future. After aiding the Third Hokage by handing over all information she had, Chikatetsu settled as a refugee, and Chо̄i started life as a shinobi of the Hidden Leaf, enrolling as a ninja as soon as she was old enough to hold a knife.At the age of five, she became a genin, and at seven earned the title of chūnin. Chо̄i, as a child, was incredibly intelligent and that intelligence only flourished as she grew up. She is a select mute, barely ever speaking to anyone and very quiet in nature. Because of that, Chо̄i didn't make many friends while in the village, a fact that worried her mother, though she evidently preferred to be alone with her thoughts and feelings. Chо̄i was the favourite of her sensei, and the two were close. Her idol became Kakashi, her step-father, who she sees as her real one. She is highly skilled in ninjutsu, and displayed the uncanny ability to learn new skills quickly and copy abilities when watched only a few times much to the infuriation of fellow classmates. Intrigued, this set Chо̄i down the path of shinobi philosophy and science, wanting to learn more, combine more, and study more - an eerie and coincidental mirror of her true father's same mindset.Her impressive display during her jо̄nin showcase led to many Feudal Lords and wealthy clients requesting to hire her long-term as an elite ninja. However, Chо̄i refused them all but one - Root. Danzō Shimura desired the girl for brain, her lethal insistence, her lack of emotion and her formidable, organic combinations.Despite Chikatetsu's clear distrust of his intentions, Chо̄i joined him, donning the codename "Persephone", and being branded with his fūinjutsu and serving him as lead persecutor and torturer.Joining Root would ultimately be her downfall, however, as the rise in Akatsuki activity and the threat of Sasuke Uchiha became more real. Before the Hylians of Skyloft returned to reclaim the Surface and raise what would become the kingdom of Hyrule, another elven people lived there. In the long years before civilisation, a pointed‑eared folk emerged from the Hylians who had not fled the Demonic Horde and had been left behind. They lived as hunters and gatherers, raised their huts across the heart of Hyrule Field, and formed their first tribes. Their skill in battle set them apart, and they were among the earliest to wield magic. The young Zora and Goron, wary of their craft, named them witches and spoke of their tribes as covens.When their second chieftain fell to a grave plague one autumn, none of the healers could save him. The coven sank into despair and begged for divine aid. Their plea was answered by fairies, small winged beings whose healing and holy magic restored the chieftain, Nayl. Struck by the fairies' power, the tribes honoured them beside the Three Golden Goddesses and raised fountains and shrines deep beneath the earth in their name.The alliance between witches and fairies held firm through the passing years. In return for offerings, loyalty and prayer, the fairies taught them their arts: levitation, the shaping of light, the shifting of form, and other hidden crafts.Life continued in this manner until the people of Skyloft descended and brought with them their own royal line. Claiming themselves the true elven race, they sought to fold the witches into their customs. The tribes resisted. They would not surrender their land nor abandon their faith. War followed. Homes were burned, men slain, families taken in chains. After five years of resistance, the coven was driven from the fields and forced into the deep places beneath the earth, where the fairies sheltered them in the shrines they had built.The fairies welcomed them, and the witches used the tunnels that linked the fountains in order to navigate their subterranean refuge. The witches would stand as allies in war, provide spells and medicines unknown to the Hylians, and allow farming on the fields without reprisal. Peace followed, and the fairy witches walked the surface without fear, though they were still met with caution and superstition. She, unaware of his intent to strike Hyrule Castle, sent Acacia to negotiate terms.Time spent with the warlock wore down her mistrust. He wove a tale of a dying desert kingdom, cast aside by the royal family and left to fade. It was false, but crafted well. Acacia saw in him a spirit like her own and grew enamoured. Her loyalty shifted, and with it, the balance of the coven.On the eve of Ganondorf's siege, the coven erupted in fury. The captains accused Acacia of treason for casting aside their existing treaty with the Hylians and leaving them in a precarious position. She answered with scorn, calling her kin cowards for bending knee to the very elves who had stolen their land and driven them below the earth.The coven broke. Those who shared Acacia's hunger for vengeance followed her into the desert with Ganondorf, fairies and witches alike. The rest remained loyal to King Daphnes and the oath they had sworn. They could only watch as their kin departed.Ganondorf had known of the treaty with Princess Zelda’s line all along, and he aimed to shatter the coven from within, and he succeeded through Acacia's seduction.She remains his most gifted tactician and negotiator, respected by the Gerudo, reviled by her own people and the Hylians, and when the siege of Hyrule Castle was won, Ganondorf wed her, turning her into the queen of the Gerudo. It was a choice made in passing, little more than a whimsy, yet he kept her at his side.In every rebirth of fate, Acacia finds her way back to him, and so does her stepson, Hyrule, the Demon King's prince‑knight, becoming The Shadow Court. Acacia's path always ends the same way. She dies in every cycle, just as Ganondorf falls, and the pattern begins anew.—She is seventeen years old.Her hair is chestnut, long to her waist and heavy with curls. She threads ivy and small flowers through it. Her eyes are seafoam green. She comes off well-bred and snooty.Witchcraft in her tribe is very primative. The coven dances naked in the moonlight, uses blood in their rituals, sacrifice animals and chants in tongues lost to most. Nearly all members use bone, stone, bows, or skullhammers, and, of course, their magic as their weapons. Acacia uses all of these.Her tribe does not wear clothing within their own lands. When they travel to the towns above, they cover themselves for courtesy, usually in glittering purple silks or plain tavern gowns. They decorate themselves in ornamented jewellery of hackgold and amethyst, worn at the throat, wrists, arms, hips, thighs and ankles. Their bodies are painted with dye pressed from a purple flower, set in swirls, handprints and old symbols that mark lineage, craft and devotion. They are usually heavily pierced, with all jewellery being made of hackgold. (She still wears this. Since joining the Gerudo, Acacia wears saris whenever she enters their towns, a habit adopted out of respect for her people's customs, but gowns to other formal events.) She earned a degree in professional sciences and later lectured in bioinformatics at a nearby campus.In 1998, during the period leading up to the Raccoon City outbreak, Lucy claimed to be out of town for academic work. In reality, she had been invited to an interview with the Umbrella Corporation. This meeting marked the beginning of her involvement with the organisation. Her employment records from this period are heavily restricted, but it is known that she was recruited into Umbrella’s covert operations division and trained extensively in espionage, infiltration and assassination.Between the late nineties and early two‑thousands, Lucy was exposed to an early experimental strain of the Progenitor virus during an Umbrella trial. The team operated under The Connections and consisted of Evelyn (Tulip), Jamison (Foxglove) and Finley (Buttercup). Their mission was to infiltrate the Village and gather data on Mother Miranda's cult, the Four Lords, their plans, Chris Redfield's Wolfpack and Ethan Winters.The mission collapsed, and the team was separated. Finley was eaten by House Dimitrescu, Foxglove infiltrated House Beneviento and was butchered by Donna, and Lucy and Evelyn reached the Reservoir, where they engaged Moreau. Evelyn was captured, but Lucy escaped, transforming into her insectoid form. Miranda, unaware that one of the spies was a B.O.W., ordered her captured. She was eventually found hiding in her makeshift base in the caves near the river a few days later, located by Heisenberg through her laptop. After deliberation, she was handed over to him, who was deemed capable of containing her underground.Heisenberg became infatuated with her, but Lucy remained in captivity only long enough to plan her escape. Working behind his back, she freed herself, contacted her handlers and secured extraction. She returned to her employers, Zeno and Dr Gideon, carrying all of Heisenberg's research she had obtained, along with additional data gathered during the mission.Lucy's field career is defined by direct action and high adaptability. She is an accomplished infiltrator and hacker, capable of bypassing military‑grade security systems and manipulating surveillance networks. She is trained in close combat and proficient with a wide range of weapons, favouring sniper rifles and scoped firearms for long‑range elimination. Her standard equipment includes an M1A1 sniper rifle, a Beretta 92FS, a Remington 870 and a Soviet NR‑43 combat knife. For assignments requiring rapid travel or escape, she uses a Ducati 1199 Superleggera. Though Dazzle’s studies dabbled more in the occult sciences—alchemy, astrology and natural magic—she had a deep interest in mutagenesis and an equal dislike of Cortex and his known habit of taking credit for inventions that were not his, and thus a new friendship was formed.After a night of heavy drinking and much back-and-forth of “it can, it can’t”, the two fixated on the notion to create a creature with both scientists’ specialities. Dazzle allowed Brio to move into her laboratory in Palermo and make full use of her research and notes, and in turn aided him in rebuilding his Evolvo-Ray, studying beneath him as his apprentice.The two worked implacably over the course of a year to design the perfect creature: part animal, part jinn. Brio had insisted early on in the project that the creature used was to be a bandicoot, having seen (and been beaten the absolute shit out of) their potential, dexterity and litheness. Crash had proven, if nothing else, hard to put down. Brio’s goal: to set his perfect creation on those who had wronged him. Dazzle's goal: to prove her side of the argument that magic and science would work.With the true inventor of the perfected Evolvo-Ray behind the switch and Dazzle’s preternatural input, the result was D’Enfer—French for Devil, a name given for the nefarious horns and tail she had developed.Brio left not long after D’Enfer’s “birth”, his passion for world domination and revenge renewed thanks to the experiment’s success, and continued his journey around France and England, leaving the beast in the hands of Dazzle to be trained. During his absence, D’Enfer was put to work against the Palermo laboratory’s intense defensive A.I. and unworldly phantasms Dazzle had cooked up to pitch her against, honing her skills. She became proficient in small firearms, stealth, infiltration, hand-to-hand combat, hacking, lockpicking and gymnastics - as dexterous as Brio said she would be. Her greatest skill and excellence by miles was her finesse with explosives, which had earned her the nickname "Granata" amidst the laboratory’s goons – grenade in Italian, which D’Enfer took as her surname.By the time he returned, following the crash of Cortex’s space station, Brio was elated to discover D'Enfer had been in action as a fully-fledged secret agent, thus far and successfully having been sent out all over the globe by Dazzle to pilfer various data and prototypes from other visionaries, sabotage rival companies, and even assassinate a handful. He was heralded as the creator of these many devices that she had stolen, no one the wiser to the truth.She was the most adaptable, adroit mutant in the history of his career.
Though Brio couldn't move on.When Cortex reared his head once again, this time alongside Uka Uka, being as difficult to keep down as his idiotic creation, Brio was seething. Harbouring that same, hateful spike of vengeance that had stayed with him since the start, if not grown worse, he sent D’Enfer to Australia to carry out her ultimate assignment yet. Her mission was to infiltrate N. Labs, steal all of Neo Cortex’s research data, bag any prototypes that were small enough to carry, and blow the place to hell. It was a move that was ultimately his downfall. When D’Enfer reached N Labs, she found the infiltration surprisingly easy, but had not expected the sheer level of security thereafter, the army of mutants and clones, nor had she expected the fellow human masterminds he surrounded himself with. Brio had failed to mention that, given he had left Cortex’s service years before it had truly established itself.She was apprehended, personally interrogated by N. Gin and Cortex and immediately (and rather unashamedly) sold out on who had sent her and for what purpose.Cortex was bemused by her sheer level of honesty, which was perceived as “despicable” (a good thing), and was impressed she had wormed her way around a tight-knit security system. He released her into his custody, much to the serious contention of Uka Uka and the other doctors, though the move proved worth it in time.She was trained up, debriefed and with trust established, finally installed as Head of Security (and why not? Given she was the only one who had ever hacked the advanced network, it made sense to do so). She brought something to N Labs that everyone there had yet to see: results. Positive results.In a cruel twist of fate, for her first assignment as an agent of N Labs, Doctor Cortex turned her back on her creator, armed with not only the same level of femme fatale competence she had always had but also with technological superiority.She returned to Palermo, robbed Dazzle and Brio, and burnt the laboratory to the ground.—CB:TS

Smitten with him, D'Enfer found him inadvertently amusing, charming, and outright laughable.Despite her attempts to seduce and woo him, which were not at all subtle, her feelings were not returned. At all. Cortex—even though he was gawky and very awkward about it—rebuffed her multiple times, even after he returned from the Antarctic three years later and saw her feelings had only grown more apparent.Eventually, he came to see past the animal and saw the intelligent, lethal, diabolical woman behind it. He continued to refuse her until she captured Aku Aku (with a grappling hook to the forehead), bagged an armful of crystals and took the rest of Crunch’s arm from the shoulder down during the scuffle to escape.The act of “unparalleled villainy” was lastly enough to win the doctor over. Fame and the big city changed both of them, and as June's own career began to rise, she was approached by Homelander. Tall, muscular, blond, scarred and chiselled-featured. Arabelle Prideaux found him as a wounded young man in the woods and brought him to the family shack in Millfields. There he became attached to their daughter, Quartette, who was fourteen at the time. As they grew close, she confronted him about the disappearances and the strange behaviour she had begun to notice over the year. He told her the truth. He was a balverine, and he had been near the Dark Sanctum when her mother found him after a territorial fight with Silverpine’s pack, who'd left him for dead and taken his pack.Quartette refused to abandon him. Determined to help him find a cure after hearing his tale of being a blacksmith and horseminder years afore, she stayed at his side and earned his loyalty through every means she could manage, keeping him hidden from the master of the estate, Reaver.When Reaver sent Quartette away and the Prideaux family began to fall apart, Hickory returned to the woodlands, heartbroken to lose them. The local balverines accepted him and formed a family unit around him, naming him their Alpha. From there he began infiltrating Lakeview Manor to learn what had happened to the girl he considered his own. Reaver eventually discovered his presence and his connection to the Prideauxs, and ordered him hunted. Hickory was forced to abandon his search.Quartette’s return to Millfields brought him back to her side. He declared her his mistress and took on the roles she needed most. Steward, butler, liveryboy and lover. Operating as the counterpart to the Sisters of the Shattered Voice, the order observed an identical way of life, adhering to the same regulations and the same four-tiered progression.——Thalan Veyr: High elf. 346 years old. Thalan Veyr was once Grand Maester of the Brothers of the Severed Voice. His fall began when the slaughter of his order's young acolytes shattered his faith in Tyr. Desperate to protect his remaining brethren, Veyr was corrupted by the whispers of Gargauth through a tainted holy artefact. The archdevil bent the elf's grief into an obsession with absolute power. Convinced that divine magic was too weak, Veyr broke his vows and abandoned the light to claim the dark, protective might of the Hidden Lord. He stands as Gargauth's Chosen, wielding the Shield of the Hidden Lord.He becomes secretly allied with the Cult of the Absolute, working within the circles and hiding beneath the city, using his devilish gifts to aid Gortash's rise while waiting for Gargauth's full return. Before Pearl can locate him or even learn of his whereabouts, he is slain by Orin the Red. Raphael, however, aware of the traitor’s demise, secures the shield, reclaiming the artefact for his private collection in the Hells in the immediate aftermath.——Sister Calanthe Myrr: Drow elf. 680 years old. Calanthe Myrr is the elderly Mother Superior of the Sisters of the Severed Voice. When Thalan Veyr enacted his deal with Gargauth, Calanthe managed to shield the sister sect from the slaughter by orchestrating her own pact with the cambion, Raphael. The fiend’s price was Pearl, to be collected nearly sixty years from the date of their contract. Calanthe accepted the terms, preserving her order and later tasked the grown Pearl with tracking down and executing Veyr. Calanthe passed away from natural causes shortly before the final confrontation with the Elder Brain, dying in agonising uncertainty, never knowing if the redemption of her order was worth the damnation of Pearl's soul, or even her own.——The Tadpole: Deprived of speech since her childhood at age ten, Pearl communicates exclusively through telepathic transmissions, though she requests permission before initiating a connection. The illithid tadpole, which forces similar telepathic links without consent, is something she considers a violation of her holy vows. Because of this involuntary parasite, Pearl feels deeply impure.——The Emperor: Exploiting her vulnerabilities, the Emperor manifests in Pearl's dreams in the guise of an intelligent war-dog, her guardian. Through this deception, he manipulates the paladin into believing he is a divine avatar of Tyr to secure her trust and compliance. When the truth is revealed, Pearl is devastated.——Silverymoon: Renowned as a bastion of magic and stringently lawful good alignment, this metropolis is governed by the Chosen of Mystra and populated predominantly by humans and elves. It is where Pearl was born and iy her current home. The Sisters of the Severed Voice have their nunnery just north of the city walls, whereas the monastery of the Brothers of the Severed Voice has theirs in the far south. When the sanctuary was corrupted and destroyed, the tragedy sent shockwaves throughout the entirety of the Savage Frontier.——How Her Campaign Fits With CanonIn the Forgotten Realms, the blood feud between Devils (lawful evil, contract-bound) and Demons (chaotic evil, destructive) is definitive. Gargauth, known as the Tenth Lord of Hell, was cast out of the Nine Hells and roams Toril as a demigod of betrayal, political corruption, and cruelty, and has done so for thousands of years.Gargauth is currently trapped inside the Shield of the Hidden Lord (an item featured in Baldur's Gate: Descent into Avernus, the prequel comic to BG3). Before being trapped in the shield, he went by many names across the millennia, including Astaroth (an old aspect he used to infiltrate mortal realms).Because Gargauth specialises in political sin and corruption from within, he does not destroy holy paladin orders with an army; he befouls them from the top down. Grand Maester Thalan Veyr broke his Oath and was corrupted by the Shield (Gargauth) to dismantle the Silverymoon sects, becoming an Oathbreaker.As an exiled archdevil seeking to buy his way back into the good graces of Asmodeus and other higher-ranking archdevils, Gargauth uses mortal cults and disintegrates holy orders as "harvesting grounds." He targets orders of Tyr or Ilmater, deities of suffering and justice, because the souls there are of those who are pure, disciplined and holy, and are the highest form of currency in Baator. Presenting virginal, trained paladins as consorts or high-tier soul-gems to greater devils is Gargauth's currency for leverage in the Hells. Pearl's order is not the first, or even the latest. In Raphael's eyes, she represents the ultimate prize, a living example of his triumph over the mortal world.
